How to protect yourself against scammers, impersonators, and bad actors in this remote world

Like many organizations, TG Federal has seen an uptick in postings, social profiles, and fake emails posing as members of the TG Federal team, but who have no affiliation with TG Federal or any of the Motion Recruitment Partners brands. The purpose of these accounts is to trick consultants and businesses into giving away confidential information or sending funds, equipment, and services. These impersonators are in no way connected to or employed by TG Federal.

Unfortunately, there is nothing TG Federal can do to put a complete stop to these scams, but there are steps you can take to protect yourself online and ensure you’re always communicating with a legitimate person.

TG Federal will NEVER:

  • Request upfront payments. TG Federal will never ask for money from a consultant during a job search. Any person claiming to be from TG that requests payment for things like background searches or equipment costs is illegitimate and should be reported and avoided.
  • Use generic messaging that doesn’t address you by name. Be wary of emails starting with Sir/Madam, or anything that reads like a mass send. Scammers work at volume in order to increase their chances of success.
  • Refer you to freelancer sites to offer work. We DO NOT use sites like Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer, Toptal, Taskrabbit, or other similar gig sites. To work with us, reach out directly via our contact us page or submit your resume via our consultant contact form.
  • Contact you exclusively via text or app. Scammers will avoid any phone or video conversation, and instead attempt to keep conversations exclusively to text or messaging apps.
  • Email you from a non-business email address. Always, always confirm the sender’s email address (not just the sender’s display name) if you’re unsure. A response that comes from a non-business-related address (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) should be an immediate red flag. Scammers may also create a similar but misspelled version of official email addresses (example: john.smith@tgifederal.com), so double-check the email address for legitimacy. We will only ever email you through a @tgfederal.com email.

How to Ensure You’re Communicating with an Actual TG Federal Representative

  • Look for official TG Federal emails. We will only ever email you via a @tgfederal.com email address, never through a personal email such as Gmail or Yahoo.
  • Contact with a TG Federal associate will go beyond social media channels. While the TG Federal team does initiate contact and have discussions through LinkedIn InMail and other social media channels, once things go further into the process of partnering with TG, additional communications will be via official TG Federal emails, video chats, or phone calls.

Still not sure? Reach out to TG Federal via information listed on this page and a member of our team will be able to quickly figure out whether the person you’re communicating with is legitimate.
